Here are descriptions of the types of offerings we have at our church along with biblical references for further explanation:

The Benevolent Offering

Taken for the sole purpose of relieving the poor, distressed, sick, needy and bereaved. It is also used to support charitable organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Detroit Rescue Mission as well as a host of others. No record is kept of this offering for I.R.S. purposes. (Scripture Reference: Matthew 6:1-4)

The Tithe Offering

Consists of ten percent (10%) of your wages, allowances or any income that God has blessed you to have. The 10% is taken after taxes (Luke 20:21-25; Romans 13:6-7), but before any other deductions (regular bills). This is an offering of faith and obedience to God’s Word, and is used to support all of the various ministries of this church. (Malachi 3: 7-12)

The General Offering

A free-will offering given in accordance to how God has prospered you. It is given above one’s Tithe, and is used for the expenses of the church. (I Corinthians 16: 1-2)

The Building Fund Offering

Used for the express purpose of building, remodeling and maintaining the house of God. (II Kings 12: 9-16)

The Love Offering

When someone other than the Pastor is preaching. It is an expression of love for the Word and the Minister preaching the Word. (I Corinthians 9: 13-14)
